In an age where many types of clothing has been subject to some degree to homogenisation into popular culture as fashion, the military combat desert boot is one such product that has almost completely changed from its original purpose. A quick browse through search engine results for the phrase 'desert boots' proves this - most direct to websites that are well known high street brands.
The fact is however, that the world's military organisations still require military desert boots in order to maintain a function armed force in the various hot regions of the world. The Middle East, Afghanistan and Northern Africa are notable examples.

Fortunately there are still manufacturers who recognise this need and are prepared to invest in the latest technologies that will ensure that desert boots are suitable for the combat soldier.
The technological advances that are required for desert fighting are of course vastly different to that required to produce the finest combat boots for other areas of the world. Soldiers face very different conditions such as extremes of hot and cold, dryness and the need to be sandproof. The best manufacturers are those that take these changes in the war arena's environment and ensure that the desert boots incorporate the relevant levels of padding to wick away sweat, anti-bacterial agents to prevent the feet from suffering from bacterial infections like athlete's foot and the absolute necessity to incorporate special sole grips and a way to help the soldier deal with an uncertain and often uncomfortable terrain.
Other attributes found in quality boots made for the desert are things that can also be found on more traditional combat boots, such as specialised orthopaedic insoles that make use of memory foam to help mould the shape of the foot. Not only does this make mass manufactured desert boots more personalised, they carry the benefit of being able to provide a better level of support to the foot, holding it in place correctly and consequently preventing blisters from rubbing and chaffing.
All in all, the quality military desert boot is alive and well. This only goes to show that even thought the march of popular culture has turned many working boots into fashion accessories, it can be said with ease that this is not necessarily the end of real military boots for any environment, especially the desert. It is also true that the majority of people who live in combat boots from one day to the next can't really be putting them to the test in same way that your average soldier might when in combat.
